William Lee "Bill" Owen, age 78, passed from his earthly home Saturday, April 26, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Bill or as some knew him Doodley was born June 25, 1946, at his home in Houlka to Thomas Lee Owen and Dora Adon Naron Owen.

Bill worked with a shipyard loading and unloading shipping containers but that wasn't all Bill could do. He also did some mechanical work and owned B & B Automotive. Many knew him as the watermelon man, as he sold watermelons for roughly 15 years.

A Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Houston Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Merrit officiating and burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Houlka, MS. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Houston Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers are Stephen "Bubba" Owen, Jr., Chaz Krout, David Shelton, Ryleigh Shelton, Paityn Byrd, and Chad Perry.

His memory will forever be cherished by his sons, Stephen Owen (Ann Owen) and William Owen, Jr. (Amanda Owen); his sister, Judy Barnett (Billy Box); his brothers, Bobby Wilson (Janie) Owen and Thomas Ray (Mary) Owen; his grandchildren, Brittany Byrd (Ricky Byrd), Allison McKnight, Cassandra Perry (Chad Perry), Katie Owen, Stephen "Bubba" Owen, Jr., Nicole Smith (Adam Smith), Caleigh Hamilton (Hunter Hamilton), and Branden Weeks; his great-grandchildren Ryleigh Shelton, David Shelton, Jr., Paityn Byrd, Mikah Rayner, Noah Owen, Isabella Perry, Lane Perry, Landon Gray, Noah McKnight, and Hartley Arrington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Lee and Dora Adon Owen; his grandparents, William Jasper Owen and Lacie Elaine Owen, Edward Lee Naron and Mattie Mae Naron.
