Nettleton - Shelby Jean Griggs Rice, 82, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. Visitation will be Sunday, May 26, 2019 from 1:00 until 3:00 at Houston Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 3:00 on Sunday, May 26 with Brother Ben Raper officiating. Burial will follow in Boone's Chapel Cemetery. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born in Mississippi on January 9, 1937 to Murphee Lee Cruse and Carrie Mae Whitt Cruse. She had worked at Franklin Corporation as a seamstress. She was a member of Church of God of Prophecy of Okolona.
She is survived by her daughters, Janice (Billy) Tartt of Nettleton, Sherry (John) Fowler of Nettleton, and Vickie (Tommy) Arnold of Mantachie; her son, Gerry (Ruth) Griggs of Nettleton; a sister, Mary Cruse of Okolona, ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Murphee and Carrie Cruse; and five brothers and sisters.
Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Cooper, Jason Jaggers, Daniel Southwick, Blake Rhuby, Sam Cooper, and Ted Sheffield.
