Houston- Ruth Agnes Carty Crosthwait, 91, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. She was born June 3, 1925 in Cedar Bluff, MS to Joe Edward Carty and Fannie Snell. Mrs. Crosthwait was a retired co-owner of Crosthwait Equipment Company, She was a founding member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Houston, MS, and she was the first Miss. Houston in 1941. She helped build and rode on the first float in the Houston Christmas Parade. She loved her grandkids, loved to talk to family and her church friends. She also was a devout Ole Miss Rebel fan.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Houston at 2:00 P.M. with Father Tim Murphy officiating.
Burial will be at Houston City Cemetery, in Houston, MS.
Houston Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her son, Allen (Holly) Crosthwait of Houston, one granddaughter, Kamryn Alexandra Wright of Houston, two grandsons, Gray and Wilkes Crosthwait both of Houston and her caregivers, Ronald Jordan, Peggy Atkins, Donnie Buchanan, and Carlos Cornado.
Ruth Agnes is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Allen Curtis Crosthwait, her brothers, Harold Carty, Joseph Carty, Edward Caty, Windell Carty, and Arthur Carty, and her sisters, Evelyn Shackles, and Frances Carty.
Visitation will be Friday, May 12, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to until 7:00 P.M. at Houston Funeral Home in Houston, MS.
Pallbearers will be Gray Crosthwait, Wilkes Crosthwait, Tony Gann, Timmy Gann, Bill Kimmel, and James Cook.
