Robin Hood Mathis, 88, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018 at Floy Dyer Manor in Houston, Mississippi. He was born November 29, 1929 in Houlka, Mississippi to Henry Lacy Mathis and Annie Nina Cole Mathis of Houlka. He graduated from Houlka High School, Mississippi State University, Keegan's School of Broadcasting in Memphis, and Elkins Electronics Institute in Dallas.
Robin along with his brothers, Ralph and Rad and friend Howard Atkinson, opened WCPC Radio in Houston in October of 1955. Robin and Ralph later expanded it to become Mississippi's first 50,000-watt radio station. Robin was very active statewide in the Miss. Broadcasters Association. He was the recipient of the prestigious Silver EM Award for his lifetime achievement in Mississippi Broadcasting. Robin served his community including Houston School Board, past state president of the Mississippi Jaycees, president of the Exchange Club, and past chairman of the Chickasaw Development Foundation. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for his work in Boy Scouts. Robin was a faithful member of Houston First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school. He served 7 years as a trustee for the Radio and TV Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Carroll Mathis; three children, Melanie (Bart) Munlin of Houston, Leslie Mathis of Southaven, and Sharon (Jimmy) Taggart of Moss Point; Three grandchildren, Samantha Taggart, Mary Beth (Adam) Arredondo and Matthew Munlin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helon and Nellie and his brothers, Rad, Merrill, Marvin, Lyndon, and Ralph.
Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Houston Funeral Home in Houston, Mississippi.
Houston Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. on Monday, November 26, 2018 at the Houston First Baptist Church with Dr. Daniel Heeringa officiating.

Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Houlka, Mississippi.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Munlin, Sam Skelton, Glenn Gann, Rick Huffman, Chris Hester, and Jerry Mathis.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Mathis and Terry Mathis.
