Mark Anthony “Spanky” Doss, age 62, passed away peacefully at his home on April 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and all those he held dear.
Spanky was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Huffman Doss of Sparta; his son, Tony (Sherry) Doss of Houston; and his daughters, Crystal (Stephen) Winter of Sparta, Ericka (Paul) Criddle of Sparta, and Laken (Bo) Yeatman of Sparta. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren who were the pride and joy of his life.
He is also survived by his mother, Eva Ann Criddle Doss of Houston; his sister, Leann (David) Nabors of Houston; his sisters-in-law, Ann Doss of Woodland and Margaret Doss of Counce, Tennessee; in-laws Dawn (Mitchell) Johnson of Vardaman and Rendie (OL) Melton of Sparta; a special nephew, Jonathan Doss of Woodland; and a special friend, Terry (Heather) Beaty of Una.
Spanky was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Lee “Tadpole” Doss; his brothers, Mike Doss and Danny Doss; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and a special niece, Wendy Doss.
He dedicated nearly 30 years of his career to Pep Industries/Alcoa, a journey that led him to reside in Del Rio, Texas for several years before returning home to Sparta, Mississippi, where he married the love of his life and built the family he cherished.
Spanky found joy in the simple pleasures of life—hunting, fishing, hearing the hounds howl on a good chase, golfing, and cooking for his family. He will be remembered most for his contagious smile and laugh, his quick wit and humor, and the deep love he had for his wife, “Dorth,” and their beautiful family.
He was a faithful member of Parkway Baptist Church in Houston, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Parkway Baptist church. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 24, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., with Bro. Randy Rinehart officiating. Visitation will resume from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. prior to the service. Houston Funeral Home is honored to serve the Doss family.

Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Beaty, Stephen Winter, Paul Criddle, and Bo Yeatman.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Gentiva Home Hospice, especially Kaylee, Lisa, and Shannon, as well as his private caregiver, Carla Buford, for the compassionate care they provided to Spanky over the past two years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkway Baptist Church, LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, or the Sparta Opry.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
