Marilyn Jo Ellis, age 70, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo, MS. She was born Marilyn Jo Roberts to Roy Hayes and Gloria Bernal Roberts on January 26, 1955, in Fontana, CA. Marilyn was a member of Calvary Assembly Worship Center in Plantersville, MS.
Marilyn retired from teaching assistant after working many years within the Houston School District but continued working as a sales associate with Moore's Feed Mill in Pontotoc until her health would no longer allow it.
Marilyn loved the outdoors and anything involving nature; camping, boating, riding bicycles but she also loved cooking and gathering to fellowship with her sweet family. She was an amazing mom, daughter, sister and aunt.
A funeral service honoring her life will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, March 28 at Houston Funeral Home with Bro. Ben Raper and Bro. Taffy officiating the service. Visitation will be from 2 :00 PM until the time of service at the funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Houston City Cemetery. Houston Funeral Home is honored to serve the Ellis Family.
Serving as pallbearers are Tye McNatt, Blake McNatt, Michael Gurley, Joe Wesley Ellis, Casper Simon and Wade Ellis. The honorary pallbearer will be Doug McNatt.
Marilyn is survived by her mother and step father, Gloria Bernal Roberts Reyon and Roger Reyon; her daughters, Carly (Michael) Gurley of Booneville, MS and Lana Reynolds of Woodland, MS; her son, Hayes Ellis of Tupelo, MS; her step son, Kevin Ellis; her sister, Linda (Doug) McNatt of Tupelo, MS; her grandchildren, Marc Gurley, Jacob Gurley, Emmy Reynolds, Holden Reynolds, Olivia Ellis, Noah Ellis, and Tiffany (Jacob) Smith and children; her great grandson, Grayson Gurley; a host of nieces and nephews; and her friends who became family, Jill (Casper) Simon, Shelia Bowels, and Vicki Weathers.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Ronnie Ellis; her father, Roy Hayes Roberts; her sweet granddaughter, Vada Joy Reynolds; her brother, Tommy Roberts; her maternal and paternal grandparents, Abe and Ruth Bernal and Roy and Frances Roberts.
The family would also like to thank the family, friends, many churches and communities for the multitude of prayers throughout the last several months.
