On Sunday May 15 th , 2022, Mable Brown Griffin Edge went to her heavenly home after suffering a massive stroke on Wednesday May 11th. She was born on May 18, 1929 and was looking forward to her 93 rd birthday the following Wednesday. She was the youngest child of Doss and Josie Brown.
She graduated from Houlka High School in 1947, having received the MVP award in basketball her senior year and had a role in the senior play. She graduated from nursing school and was a caring and compassionate nurse for many years having worked with Dr. Edward Gore, Dr. Russell and at the Houston and Tupelo Hospitals as well as a nurse for the Franklin Corporation in Houston. She enjoyed taking care of her patients and their families as much as she could.
She is survived by her children, Bro. Steve Griffin (Kay) of Mantee, MS, Melissa Woodruff (David) of Houston, MS, and Grant Griffin (June) of Houston, MS. Nanny loved her grandchildren, Bro. Scott Griffin, Landon Griffin, Sean Griffin, Brad Woodruff, Jonathon Woodruff and Ciara Griffin. She was loved by her great grandchildren, Kayleigh and Kayden Griffin, and John Thomas Woodruff, her nieces, nephews and her many friends. She is also survived by her sister, Dee Ford of Houston.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Doss and Josie Brown, son, Mike Griffin, her husbands, James Griffin and Ed Edge, and her siblings, Eulan Brown, Guy Brown, Agnes Westmoreland, D.C. Brown, and Odis Brown.
She was a former member of the Saxon Memorial Church of the Nazarene where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years and is now a member of the First Baptist Church of Houston. She was a sweet Christian who loved her Lord and Savior, her family and her friends.
The Celebration of Life service will be held at the Houston Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, May 18 th at 2 P.M. with visitation from 12:00 noon to 2 P.M. prior to the service with Bro. Scott Griffin and Bro. Kenny Adams officiating.
Pallbearers will be: Bro. Scott Griffin, Landon Griffin, Sean Griffin, Jeff Weaver, Dewayne Weaver and Mack Smith.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of her daughter-in law, Kay Griffin.
