Obituary

Johnson, Lavern - Houston, MS Elizabeth Laverne Brown Johnson, 85, died Sunday, August 11, 2013, the day before her birthday, at her home in Houston. She was born August 12, 1927, in Houlka to Curtis Leroy Brown and Verona Elizabeth Lancaster Brown. She was a retired secretary for the US Forrestry Service and a member of Houston First Baptist Church where she served as organist and training union teacher. She was a charter member of the Pilot Club, a member of the Eastern Star, the Jaycettes, and the Twentieth Century Club.
Services are Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Houston Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her nieces, nephews, cousins, and her caregivers, Sabrina Mays and Gail Mays.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Johnson on June 13, 2004, her parents, and her brothers, Willie Curt Brown and Herbert Brown.
Pallbearers Wallace Norman, Jr., Leland B. Norman, Jr., Jim Blue, Jimmy Smith, Kevin Smith, Rex Sanderson.
Visitation is Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 9:30 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral service time at Houston Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sanctuary Home Hospice, P. O. Box 2177, Tupelo, MS 38803 or ST. Jude Children s Research Hospital, 501 ST. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
