Obituary

John Richard Callahan, affectionately known as Killer or Uncle Rick, passed away on April 16, 2026, after a prolonged illness. Born on October 12, 1958, to Clyde Anderson Callahan, Jr. and Lou Ella Gore Callahan, Ricky was the sixth of seven children. His journey through life was marked by an unwavering individuality and a steadfast loyalty to those he held dear.

Ricky’s formative years were shaped in Houston Schools, where he received his education before answering the call to serve in the Mississippi National Guard. There, he proudly served alongside his father and brother Reggie, exemplifying dedication to both family and country. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.

Professionally, Ricky was widely respected for his exceptional skills in electrical work, a craft he honed over many years and for which he earned widespread recognition. In his later years, he embraced the life of a cattleman with passion and expertise. Known among his peers for his unique bond with each of his cows—each named and cared for with affection—Ricky’s love for his livestock was a testament to his character and gentle spirit.

Ricky was also a fervent supporter of the Ole Miss Rebels, passionately following the team and reflecting the spirited person he was throughout his life. His life was nothing short of an adventure, as from his early days through to his final breath, he lived true to his own rhythm, guided by his heart and fierce loyalty. Those who were privileged to know him always knew exactly where they stood with Ricky—his honesty and integrity were cornerstones of his relationships.

He was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

Ricky is survived by his son, John Richard Walker of Brandon, MS; his beloved grandchildren Caleb Walker of Auburn, AL, Kacey Walker of Huntsville, AL, Sophia White of Brandon, MS, and Crew Walker of Brandon, MS; his sisters Jane (Steve) Pearson and Ella (Sonny) Spencer, both of Houston, MS; his brothers David (Vicky) Callahan of Woodland, MS and Dale (Patsy) Callahan of Vardaman, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews who were cherished parts of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Anderson Callahan, Jr. and Lou Ella Gore Callahan; his sister Lynn Harmon; his brother Reggie Callahan; and nephews Patrick Pearson and Casey Harmon.
