Mrs. Dorlos Jean Vaughn Porter, 90, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at her home in Woodland, Mississippi. Visitation will be Sunday, February 24, 2019, from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., at Houston Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Houston Funeral Home in Houston with Bro. Calvin Warren officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Houston, Mississippi. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Porter was born August 31, 1928 in Chickasaw County, Mississippi to Ishmael Lee and Olivia Jane Nichols Vaughn. Jean Porter lived in Chickasaw County most of her life. She attended Woodland High School and East Central Junior College. She was a Baptist. On November 5, 1949, she married James W. Porter in Pontotoc, Mississippi. They lived in Holly Springs for a brief period until they moved back to Chickasaw County, where they lived until her death. She was a secretary for many years for the McCrane and Fox Law Firms in Houston. She also served as secretary for the Sparta Water Association in Sparta, Mississippi for over forty years.
At the time of her death, she was still living at home and able to enjoy watching the wild birds feeding outside her window, the flowers, do light household activities and spend many hours in conversation with her husband and family.
Mrs. Porter is survived by her husband of 69+ years, James W. (Jimmy) Porter of Woodland; her son, James Barry (Debbie) Porter of Brandon, MS; her daughter, Donna Porter (Ben) Cliett of Montpelier, MS; her grandchildren, Jason Porter, Michael Porter, Rachel (Ryan) Puckett, James Cliett, Robert (Hannah) Cliett, Allena (Travis) Sanders; her great grandchildren, Brianna Porter, Brayden and Levi Cliett, Emma and Kristen Sanders, and Kinley Puckett.
Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her parents, Ishmael Lee and Olivia Nichols Vaughn, and only brother, Robert Alton Vaughn.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Puckett, Chris Ellison, Trey Ellison, John Hays, Romie Hays, and Russell Brown.
