James McCord "Jimmy" Smith, 86, passed away May 18, 2018, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Mr. Smith was born on May 12, 1932 in Calhoun County to James McCord Smith and Sally Bell Shearer Smith. He was former two term city mayor of Houston, City Alderman, public works supervisor for the city of Houston as well as a salesman for the Creed Company. James Smith was a member of Houston First United Methodist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army. Jimmy was a Mason, a charter member of Houston Volunteer Fire Department where he served 20 years, an avid sports fan, a loving husband, father, papaw, and great papaw.

Funeral Service for Mr. Smith will be 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Houston Funeral Home in Houston with Rev. Rex Wilburn officiating.

Burial will be at Chickasaw Memorial Gardens in Houston, Mississippi with Masonic Rites.

Houston Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Hill Smith of Houston, one daughter, Kathy (David) Smith of Houston, two sons, Brad (Susan) Smith of Raymond, MS, and Mack Smith of Houston, two sisters, Virginia "Jennie" (Travis) Thorton of Houston and Martha (Charlie) Smith of Houston, his grandchildren, Kristopher Smith, Katelyn (Michael) Scott, Paige (Curt) Meyers, and Tanner Smith, and his great-grandchildren, Lynnlee Scott, Cayden Box, Finley Meyers, and McCord Meyers.

Jimmy Smith is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Houston Funeral Home in Houston, Mississippi.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Blankenship, Wes Lowe, Jim Meyers, Tanner Smith, Kristopher Smith, and Leland B. Norman, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow coffee drinkers.
