James Eugene Paden, a venerable figure whose life was deeply interwoven with devotion, honor, and enduring love, passed away on June 14, 2026. Born on February 18, 1937, in the modest town of Houlka, Mississippi, James lived a life marked not only by his steadfast commitment to his country but also by the cherished relationships that defined his journey.

Son to James Merrill Peden and Inez Zachary Peden, James's early years in Houlka laid the foundation for a character of remarkable resilience and dedication. Embracing his calling with unwavering resolve, he proudly served in the United States Air Force, valiantly representing his nation through the conflicts of Korea and Vietnam. His military career, distinguished by honor and sacrifice, culminated in his retirement from service, a testament to his steadfast patriotism and courage.

Beyond his professional endeavors, James was a pillar of family and community. His marriage to Martha Paden, which spanned an illustrious 54 years, was a partnership rooted in lifelong affection and mutual respect. Together, they navigated the vicissitudes of life, fostering a nurturing environment that blossomed into a legacy of kinship and friendship.

James's lineage is carried forward by those who remain to cherish his memory. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Lori Smith and her spouse Neal, and his son Jimmy McClain alongside his spouse Ginger and his daughter, Shelia Weeks and her spouse Ronny; His sister Elaine Smith and her spouse Kenny also honor his spirit. The circle of his influence extends to his grandchildren Sidney McClain, Jeremy McClain, David McClain, Joshua Smith, Douglas Killebrew, and Lauren Blackwell, and a son in law, Rick Killebrew, whose lives are enriched by his example. Additionally, numerous great-grandchildren, along with his nieces and nephews, continue to celebrate his life and legacy. Preceded in death by his beloved spouse of 54 years, Martha Paden and his daughter Linda Killebrew, as well as his parents and two brothers, Ronny and Buddy Paden.

The solemnities commemorating his journey commenced with a graveside service on June 17, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 3:45 PM at Rose Hill Cemetery, located on County Road 420 in his hometown of Houlka, Mississippi. There, in the stillness of that sacred ground, family and friends gathered to pay their final respects, celebrating a life lived with dignity, service, and an unyielding love for both nation and kin.

Jeremy McClain, Sidney McClain, David McClain, Joshua Smith, Doug Killebrew and Kris Blackwell will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy McCLain, Neal Smith, David Thomas, and the Hardees Morning Coffee Crew: Lanny Wilson, Carl Rogers, Kenny Blissard, Jerry Eaton, Robert Eaton, Johnny Kimbrough, Frank Pemper, and Glen Bray.

James Eugene Paden’s life story is a profound chapter of loyalty and grace. His departure leaves an indelible mark, a beacon of strength for future generations.
