James Harmon
Houston, MS – James Vernon Harmon, 77, passed away at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, MS on Saturday, March 31, 2018. He was born on September 27, 1940, in Vardaman, MS, to the late Vernon B. and Maylene Harmon. He was an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965. He served as an air policeman during the Vietnam War. He would have celebrated his 55th wedding anniversary with his high school sweetheart, Martha Moore Harmon. He worked in the furniture manufacturing industry most of his career, starting out at Shannon Chair Company and retiring from Franklin Corporation. He enjoyed spending summers on the lake, hunting and fishing, watching all sports, and spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Moore Harmon of Houston, and his children James "Jay" (Jill) of Scottsville, Kentucky; Kevin (Debbie) of Houston, MS; and Misty McRae (Sam) of Tupelo, MS. He had six grandchildren: Jennifer Magen Meador (John), Jacob Harmon (Kaitlyn), Jasper Harmon, Jordan Ashley Harmon, Jayden Harmon, and Jase McRae. He had one great-granddaughter, Jacey Kate Meador. He is also survived by his siblings: Wayne Harmon (Diane), Rachel Breland, Bobbie Prevallet (Jim), and Sandra Russell. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Jason Bailey, Jacob Harmon, Jasper Harmon, Jeff Harmon, Mike Juckes, John Meador, Russell Thomas, and Darrin Vance.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Parkway Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 3.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
