Hershel Jones III, 58, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS. He was born in Eupora, MS on June 11, 1964 to Hershel Jones Jr. and Margaret Childers.

Hershel was a construction worker for McCarty King Construction in Tupelo, MS and a member of Bent Knee Church in Houlka, MS.

Hershel was a humble man, he never liked to be the center of attention. In life and now in death, he wouldn't want us to focus on him. He wouldn't want us to focus on the sadness of his death, but instead focus on the happiness in our lives, appreciate each other and our future. Although we will miss him, we can take comfort in the good feelings of our memories.

Hershel was the grandest of all "Poppys"! There was nothing he loved more than spending time with his grandchildren. From stickers all over his face to fishing, riding horses, and saying to yes to every pet possible. Hershel enjoyed the smiles and joy of doing whatever the kids wanted. He also had a love of working with his hands and building and remodeling things for those he loved and as his profession.

He was the patriarch of his family, avid hunter and fisherman and cared for all animals with everything in him.

Hershel was a man who always cared for others more than himself, a good friend to all, loving husband, father, stepfather, and brother. A kind a self-less man whose loving memory will carry us through until we meet again.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Bent Knee Church 317 Main St. Houlka, MS 38850 with Bro. Jacob Samuell officiating. Family and friends will gather after at the church.

Honorary pallbearers will be Perry Brooks, Derrek Earp, Greg Earp, Sam Russell and Scott Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Wendy Jones; three daughters, Nicole (Miles) Bailey of Grenada, MS, Emily (Lee) DePriest of Pontotoc, MS, Amanda (Justin) Carlson of Missouri; one son, Hershel Glover of Ecru, MS; his stepmother, Peggy Jones; five brothers, Randy (Hal) Jones-Jeffords of Ireland, Justin (Angela) Jones, David (Meridith) Weathers, Brian Jones all of Caledonia, MS, Ferrell Jones of Texas; nine grand-children, Zada Dawson, Leona Berry, Aiden Bailey, Ella Carlson, Ryan Carlson, Gabe Carlson, Rowan Glover, Gavin Glover and Jax Kimble.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel Jones Jr. and Margaret Childers.
