Surrounded by family, Elsie Griffin, 98, born to Kager and Mary Smitherman Barnes on May 29, 1926, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024 in Round Rock, Texas.
Elsie grew up outside Aberdeen, Mississippi. She married her love, Lundy Griffin, on July 9, 1944. Elsie had a love for reading, word puzzles, and her family. She loved the Lord and lived by His word every day. Known affectionately as Gan-Gan by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Elsie was a gentle and kind grandmother. She enjoyed playing cards with all of her grandchildren and could easily win a game of double solitaire at the age of 98.
She is survived by her son, Glen Griffin and wife Dot, of Round Rock, Texas; granddaughters, Stephanie Blackburn and husband Josh, of Bossier City, Louisiana; Amy Goode and husband Rowdy, of Round Rock, Texas; great grandchildren, Will, Alex, and Baylee Blackburn, Kyle and Carter Goode; and sister, Mary Gillentine.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Kager and Mary Barnes; husband, Lundy Griffin; son Gerald Griffin; sisters, Edna Long, Anna Hodnett, and Delores Moore; brothers, Calvin Barnes, Johnny Barnes, Douglas Barnes, Earnest Barnes, Kenneth Barnes, and Lynn Barnes.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday at 11:00 am at Houston Funeral Home in Houston, Mississippi. A Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 pm with Elsie's nephew, Bro. Steve Griffin, officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alex Blackburn, Baylee Blackburn, Kyle Goode, Carter Goode, Josh Blackburn, and Rowdy Goode.
Romans 8:38-39 "For I am sure that neither death nor life ... nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."
