Albert Dyer Atkinson, 86, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Floy Dyer Nursing Home. Dyer was born on April 28, 1937, at home in Van Vleet, MS to Albert Neely and Juanita Dyer Atkinson.

Dyer graduated from Big Lake High School in Texas in 1956 and joined the U.S. Air Force for a 4-year stint. He enrolled at the University of Mississippi in 1960. On August 15, 1965, Dyer married Betty Scott Atkinson.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Scott Atkinson; his two sons, Matthew Scott Atkinson of Gettysburg, PA and John Dyer (Kellie) Atkinson of Houston, MS; his grandchildren, Ben, Truett, Walter, Job, Emma and Aubrey Atkinson; his two brothers, Gerry (Jo) of Ridgeland and Mike (Lynn) of Columbus.

Dyer was co-owner of Dyer wood, Inc. in Pyland, MS. He was a member and elder at Houston Presbyterian Church. Dyer loved nature and enjoyed hunting and skeet shooting with his sons. He was an avid runner and relished the opportunity to compete in races with guys his age. He won numerous trophies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Neely and Juanita Dyer Atkinson.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Houston Presbyterian Church.
